Twelve years have passed. Today, we pause to remember those who were killed, honor the resilience of survivors, and stand with the thousands of families still searching for missing loved ones. While the world's attention has shifted, the Yezidi community continues to seek justice, accountability, and the right to live safely and with dignity in its ancestral homeland.
12 YEARS SINCE THE YEZIDI GENOCIDE: THE WORLD MOVED ON—WE COULDN’T
On 3 August 2026, we mark 12 years since the Yezidi Genocide. Across the world, Yezidis gather in remembrance of those who were massacred, those who survived unimaginable atrocities, and the thousands who remain missing
While the world has moved on from the headlines of 2014, the search for justice is far from over. More than 2,500 Yezidis remain missing, thousands of families continue to live in displacement, and many survivors are still waiting for meaningful accountability. Recognition of the genocide has been an important step, but lasting recovery requires continued international commitment to justice, security, and the protection of Yezidi rights.
To learn more about our work and how we mark this year's commemoration, visit our website and follow us on Instagram, where our team is sharing updates from remembrance ceremonies in Sinjar throughout the day.
This anniversary is not only a time to remember those we lost, but also an opportunity to reaffirm our shared responsibility to support survivors and ensure the future of the Yezidi community.
Twelve years later, we refuse to give up the fight for justice.
