Action Two Africa’s Microloan Program is flourishing, despite an increase in COVID-19 cases and a strict curfew in Bungoma County. After a few months of hard work, we are happy to announce that our initial seven caregivers who benefitted from the Program in March are generating income that is supporting their families. Margaret, one of the caregivers in the Program, told Humphrey on one of his visits, that because of her new business, her children never go without food, and that they have at least two meals per day. Before Margaret started her own business of selling vegetables, fish, and beans, her family could barely afford one meal a day, and the stress of worrying about having a stable meal was overwhelming. Margaret, like the other caregivers in the Program, is excited about the future of what her new business can do for her family and community.
One of the tenets of a successful microloan program is to have a repayment plan that caters to each individual and the type of business they are starting. If a repayment plan is unrealistic, by not allowing enough time for repayment, or too high of an interest rate, it creates problems that tend to impact the overall success of a business. We are happy to announce that most of the loans given have been repaid, which means that more caregivers have been recruited into the Program. We currently have 15 members, and are growing!
Congratulations to the caregivers in our Microloan Program who have successfully completed the microloan course led by Humphrey, and who are thriving in their new businesses!
