Rainbow Trust provides Family Support Workers to give support to families of children who have life-threatening or terminal illnesses. Support is given at home, at hospital and wherever else is needed. Family Support Workers help parents with the practical aspects of living with a sick child and give emotional support to brothers and sisters who are struggling to deal with the changes to their lives.
Last year, we received nearly 700 referrals of new families who are struggling to cope with having a child that suffers from a life threatening or terminal illness. That's 16 percent more than we received the year before. Rainbow Trust Children's Charity has nine teams of Family Support Workers who are dedicated to supporting families in this unimaginable situation. Unfortunately, there are still thousands more families that we can't help, simply because we don't have the resources.
This project will fund new Family Support Workers to support families that we currently don't have the resources to help. Our aim is to develop new Care Teams to reach areas that we currently can't get to, eventually providing support across the UK.
Each Family Support Worker takes care of up to 25 families, so just one more could give emotional and practical help to up to 150 individuals - sick children, their brothers and sisters, mums and dads and grandparents.
