I believe in Education

By Memory Mundia | Impact Operations Manager

18year old Evelyne was born on September 8th, 2004. Her father abandoned the family when she was only ten years old. She and her four siblings were raised by her mother under many hardships. Her mother struggled to make ends meet due to financial instability, and this also had a negative impact on her education. Evelyne had no means to acquire school necessities. When Evelyne was in grade 9, she fell pregnant, and despite the hurdles of being a teenage new mother, she went against all odds and studied for her grade 9 exams, in which she performed extremely well. Because of her excellent academic performance, a teacher at that school recommended her to the African Impact Foundation when she got to grade 10 at Zambezi Basic School to consider including her on the Sponsor a Child (SAC) program in order to meet some of her academic needs; this was when Evelyne became a SAC beneficiary. She continued to perform well academically, but unfortunately, Evelyne fell pregnant again during the final term of grade 10 in 2021. With this, her mother was disappointed and decided to send her into marriage with the father of her children; it was at this point when the AIF did not hear from Evelyne in a long time. In November 2022, Evelyne felt she was ready to continue pursuing her education to realize her dreams one day. She approached the AIF and explained everything that had occurred in the past year; she also insisted that she wanted to continue studying and fought extremely hard to get back into school. The team had a check with her husband and family members, who all seemed very supportive of her returning to school. We supported her with some school necessities and assisted her in finding a new school place at Libuyu Secondary School in grade 11, where she is now learning since March 2023. ''I am very happy to be back in school; despite it being hard to be a mother and a school girl, at the same time, I am very determined to work extremely hard to be a medical doctor someday. My family is very supportive through this process, and I am extremely thankful to the AIF for always believing in my potential to do better''-Evelyne.
