The Sprout Care Foundation is grateful to all its donors especially those that responded to the July campaign. The closure of schools in Uganda has continued to affect the learning of girls and boys of school going age. The government introduced lessons on television and radio, this has not been effective as most families live in areas where there is no electricity, and above all very few have radios. The Sprout Care Foundation introduced online classes for 50 students that are in grade four and five. This has been through facilitating the teachers with data to enable them conduct lessons. The learners were clustered in groups of five according to their villages, assigned a community volunteer and supported with a smart phone to enable them have online whatsapp lessons.
Two teachers were facilitated to monitor and conduct supportive visits to these learners in their respective villages strictly following the standard operating procedures as set by the Uganda Ministry of Health.
This initiative has enabled learner to continue with their education especially those who do not have access to television and radio program lessons. As school open next year these learners will be on the same page with others who have televised lesson.
Lesson learnt. The monitoring of learner by the teacher helps learners create a good teacher to pupil relationship that facilitate effective learning. And during these interactions the learners are able to get answers to their un answered questions during the online lesson that is limited with time.
The Sprout Care Foundation wish to grow this initiative of online lesson to benefit 150 students. Once again we wish to appreciate all our donors, thank you for believing and supporting our cause of enabling equitable access to educations for both boys and girls especially the most vulnerable.
