You Help Club Kids Fulfill Their Potential

By Laura Portier-LaLumiere | Chief Advancement Officer

From Club member to Fulbright Award winner, Emmy King is a perfect example of why America (and the world!) needs Club kids. Emmy just became the first member of her family to graduate from college, finishing summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English. She has received a prestigious Fulbright Award to serve as an English Teaching Assistant in the Czech Republic.

When Emmy joined the Club as a kid, she took advantage of so much that we have to offer! She got homework help from caring staff in the education center. She performed with our ClubHouse Theatre program. And she pursued her passion for art - in high school, she even won an award in the US Congressional Art Contest.

During her college summers and holidays, Emmy returned to the Club as a staff member, dedicating much of her time in the art room and inspiring the next generation of young artists. Her commitment to education and mentorship came full circle as she guided children through the same programs that once shaped her own development. Now she’s ready to take that same commitment global as she prepares to work with children in the Czech Republic.

"Emmy's story represents everything our Club stands for – helping kids succeed in school and explore their interests so that they can go on to do amazing things and give back to the community," says our CEO Art Groeneveld. "We couldn't be prouder of Emmy. We’ve seen her grow up from Club member, to Club staff, and now to Fulbright Award winner! This achievement is incredible and we can’t wait to hear about her Fulbright experience in the Czech Republic."

There are nearly 5,000 kids at our Boys & Girls Club and each of them has so much potential. When you sponsor a child at the Boys & Girls Club, you help each of them reach their full potential, just like Emmy. Thank you!
