Junior Achievement to 1,000 Ft Worth Area Students

by Junior Achievement of the Chisholm Trail

Summary

Teens are no longer as confident in their ability to achieve financial freedom. The survey of more than 1,000 14 to 18 year-olds found that only 56 percent think they will be as financially well-off or better than their parents. That represents a 37 percent drop from 2011. Junior Achievement provides students the knowledge and skills to own their economic success so they can attain their life goals.

Challenge

A recent survey conducted by Junior Achievement USA and The Allstate Foundation shows us our teens are thinking differently-at least in terms of their financial security and independence. Teens are no longer as confident in their ability to achieve financial freedom. The survey of more than 1,000 14 to 18 year-olds found that only 56 percent think they will be as financially well-off or better than their parents. That represents a 37 percent drop from 2011.

Solution

Junior Achievement is committed to preparing students to own their economic success. We understand that preparing our youth to be financially literate is more complex than teaching them to put their pennies in a piggy bank, which is why JA has developed programs to meet today's economic climate. But being financially literate is only half the battle. JA is also providing young people with the tangible skills to obtain and succeed at a livable wage career. JA's programs provide those skills.

Long-Term Impact

JA's programs in middle and high schools, delivered by business volunteers, provide skills to help students obtain a livable wage career, stress the importance and relevance of education to their future economic success, and provide financial knowledge that empowers them to own their financial future. In students from economically disadvantaged families, these skills can help break the cycle of poverty and open new opportunities.
