This project will provide enrichment day-care centres for Papi and friends - our special needs birds. The structures would be close so we can keep an eye on them while they enjoy the outdoors, giving them freedom to safely adventure and relax. Each area would incorporate their favourite foods, toys and spaces, greenery, safe rain-bathing and sun-bathing plus a noon-nap area.
We have several special needs birds who will remain permanently with us at Belize Bird Rescue. We provide life-long high quality care and fulfilling their enrichment needs is just as important as nutrition and medical attention. We would like to provide these structures to allow these special birds to feel as free as they can while being safely supervised.
The birds will be able to exercise in the enrichment day-care centres, they can forage for food, hide, play, feel the sun and rain and even just snooze in their little bit of the "wild".
The day-care structures will benefit our current special needs residents and those who will join Belize Bird Rescue in the future. While our goal is always release, sometimes that isn't possible for a multitude of reasons. This project will allow us to provide a lifelong gift to our permanent residents.
