Belize Bird Rescue is the only multi-species avian rescue facility in Belize, rehabilitating for release orphaned, injured and illegally trafficked parrots and other wild birds of the Central American rainforest.
Belize is a small country with a big heart, but limited resources. Sadly, our native birdlife, especially parrots, are traded and trafficked for the illegal pet trade. Belize Bird Rescue specialises in the conservation, rescue and rehabilitation-for-release of wild-caught parrots and all species of native wild birds, and providing country-wide rescue services and veterinary care free of cost. Donations to this project will help us to save and release hundreds of wild birds throughout 2024.
Your donation makes our work, saving birds, possible. With your help we can continue to provide rescue services, specialised veterinary care, rehabilitation, husbandry, transportation, education and outreach throughout the country, giving wild birds a second chance at freedom. We also provide a model of excellence for future bird rescues in other countries offering them training and advice so that more endangered birds can be saved.
BBR's programs and facilities give rescued and confiscated birds a chance of freedom, making enforcement less controversial for the Government. Historically, with nowhere to place confiscated parrots, illegal poaching and pet-keeping was ignored. Tourism is a major part of the economy and the abundance of 500+ species of parrots and other wild birds draw tourists to Belize. Every bird released has a positive impact on wild populations, and on public perceptions both locally and internationally.
