Icha Foundation is a home for 15 abandoned children with significant physical and mental disabilities. We offer therapeutic learning and we wish to establish a vocational centre on our campus to enhance their abilities by promoting different methods: audio-visual aids, arts and crafts, and other didactic materials. Additionally, we have identified another 15 children located in the villages surrounding our campus with similar disabilities.
Our foundation is located fifty-six kilometres from the nearest city, Visakhapatnam, in village Kondakarla. There are a few other villages in the vicinity, which have a significant number of children with disabilities. The access to basic, primary education in the area is difficult, and there is no vocational centre for children with disabilities.
We aim to set up a vocational centre for 30 children, and create an encouraging audio-visual space in which we can conduct various programs with the aid of didactic materials such as movies, music, arts and crafts. We are hopeful that participating in these activities will stimulate the children to level where we might begin to discover their potential.
Slowly, but surely, we intend to bring about a change in the access to educational facilities in the area for every child with special needs. We are confident that our programs will enhance their abilities, not just with regard to their personal self-sufficiency or life skills, but also in terms of learning a craft that will benefit them in future.
