Animal Spay and Neuter International have recently started a Monthly Spayathon where in, over a period of a week, as many dogs and cats as possible will be spayed. Last week 127 animals were sterilized. The number of births this saves is numerous, with one unspayed female dog being able to potentially produce 67,000 offspring in her lifetime! She has puppies, her puppies have puppies and so on.
For cats the numbers are even greater, a female cat can procreate very early in their lives at 4-5 months. Kittens giving birth to more kittens. Over one female’s lifetime millions of births can be saved by just spaying one animal! This being so 127 animals sterilized by ASNI saves (potentially) over 8 million births in dogs and in cats the figures are over 100 million.
All this shows how vital ASNI’s work is in countries such as Romania where dogs and cats freely roam the street. Even if they have homes they are often left to roam during the day whilst the owners are at work. To rehome one puppy can cost up to £500 once rescued from the streets. One spay by ASNI costs as little as £20 per animal!
Just Spay One!
