Greetings Friends!
In this report I would like to share the latest information with you. We are extremely busy spaying and neutering at Center of Hope, using the air conditioned Spay Shuttle to pick up cats from rural locations to help. The Red Van is continuing our remote spay and neuter campaigns, whereby the mobile team stays for days at a location to provide spays and neuters and veterinary care in villages. In total Romania Animal Rescue has spayed and neutered 130,140 cats and dogs.
In July we were joined by a vet team from the USA who stayed at Center of Hope providing their skilled spay and neuter surgeries. 197 animals were spayed and neutered during the week of their stay. Our Romanian team now has new international colleagues.
With the collaboration we have with the County of Ilfov to provide spays and neuters to stop the abandonment of cats and dogs, we are working harder than ever. This first of its kind initiative began in September 2022.
Our Surgical Procedure:
Cats have special needs in recovery due to their small size and are vulnerable under anesthesia. A cat's normal temperature is 101 - 102.5 F. A low temperature can set in rapidly during surgery and anything below 97.88 degrees is considered hypothermia. Therefore it is essential after surgery to monitor the cats temperatures. We now have a new Mistral Air Plus 11 Air Warming System. This provides blankets that have hot air blown into them to keep cats warm.
Veterinary surgeons use the hook spay method to provide minimally invasive surgery. Pre-meds given to cats are administered in their carriers prior to surgery, calmly and quickly without the need for "scruffing" or crush cages to do so. Cats can take longer than dogs to wake up after surgery, up to 2 hours, so often an anesthetic reversal is needed to maintain their core temperatured. Cats are more prone to vomiting during recovery also so careful monitoring is essential. Once they are awake it is important to get them into their carriers as soon as possible. All these actions help maintain homeostatis in a cat throughout the surgical procedure.
And we are proud to announce that we have received 3 new awards by GlobalGiving for the year 2024:
2024 Vetted Charity
2024 Charity of the Month
2024 Site Visit Verified
I wish you all the best and thank you for helping us to help the most needy animals and save thousands from ever being born to suffer in a place that cannot or will not provide for them.
