Thank you for your generous contribution to the Spain Flood Relief Fund. More than a month after devastating floods hit Spain's Valencia region, thousands remain displaced and mourning loved ones lost. In the face of this tragedy, your support brings a glimmer of hope to communities and serves as vital encouragement for nonprofits on the frontlines of recovery efforts.

Since our fund launched, the GlobalGiving Spain Flood Relief Fund has made seven grants to community-led nonprofit organizations.

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Federación Española de Bancos de Alimentos is the umbrella organization for more than 50 food banks across Spain. It is coordinating with its member food banks in the most affected areas of Valencia to distribute food and essentials, while also providing financial support to specific food banks in the impacted region.
  • Asociación Por Ti Mujer is actively assessing the immediate needs of women affected by the floods to provide the most helpful support, often in the form of furniture, clothing, and school supplies. As an organization supporting women with irregular immigration status—including refugees and migrants who may fear seeking help due to their status—Asociación Por Ti Mujer is making sure no person is left behind in recovery efforts.
  • Asociación Valenciana de Ayuda a la Parálisis Cerebral (AVAPACE) is an organization dedicated to supporting people with cerebral palsy through care, advocacy, awareness, and research. AVAPACE is distributing essential supplies with the help of local volunteers to many families within its network in the flood-affected areas. The organization’s emergency relief efforts ensure those affected by chronic illness, specifically cerebral palsy, receive the specialized care they need even during this devastating time.

Your support of the GlobalGiving Spain Flood Relief Fund makes locally-led responses like these a reality. Here is what one grant recipient wanted you to know about the importance of your donation and the road to recovery that lies ahead:

“We have now produced around 60,000 meals for the flooded area with the help of some 300 volunteer cooks. We still believe we will need to produce hot meals at this level for a further two to three months while local infrastructure is restored.” - Fundación Ayuda Una Familia (Help a Family Foundation)

Together with our partners, we sincerely thank you once again for your continued solidarity.

With gratitude,

Kyra + the GlobalGiving Team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
