Solidarity in Action (SIA) continues to support local intercommunal initiatives throughout Lebanon contributing to alleviating the burden of the multifaced crisis Lebanon is facing. SIA in general focuses on 6 priority areas:
During the past few months, Solidarity in Action (SIA) supported 5 different initiatives under different priority areas of intervention, in the Lebanese regions of Akkar, Tripoli, Beirut, Kfarshima, and South Lebanon.
St. Joseph is a private school in Akkar - North Lebanon that has students from different backgrounds. Due to the current situation in Lebanese schools, there was a need to develop the secretary room and purchase some stationery. Through Solidarity in Action, the school was able to purchase one laptop, one scanner, and stationery. 514 students in the school benefited from this initiative.
The initiative aimed to provide psychological support sessions to 20 female prisoners in Tripoli Central Prison for women of all nationalities over the age of 18, and help them overcome their experiences and traumas through playing basketball, in addition to share unexpressed feelings, conflicts and past painful experiences of female prisoners and urging them to face them positively. Through solidarity initiatives, five psychological support sessions were carried out accompanied by five basketball training sessions, as basketball is considered one of the most important therapeutic factors for the mental and physical health of female prisoners because it develops the spirit of the group and strengthens the relationship between prisoners. It also encouraged exercise and enhanced the life skills of female prisoners to maintain their mental health in prison and make them more flexible to adapt to society when they get out. The initiative led to, forming a basketball team of female prisoners qualified to compete with external teams, and this is what the association will work on in the future.
DLR started the online educational and emotional after-school tutoring program in response to the Beirut blast in January 2021. The program focused on providing academic and psycho-social support to students in post-blast. University students were recruited as online tutors, offering subjects like Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Arabic, English, and French. Each school student received 2 to 3 tutoring hours per week, with tutors compensated for 60% of their time and 40% considered as community service. The initiative continues until this day, not only aid students but also support university students financially while promoting the importance of community service. Through solidarity initiatives, many students have already benefited from this program to support their educational journey in these difficult circumstances in Lebanon. Additional sessions on "Child Protection," interreligious dialogue, and motivational topics were held to foster an intercultural community beyond tutoring.
Collège Notre Dame de l’Annonciationis a private school in Kfarshima - Mount Lebanon that has students from different backgrounds. Due to the current situation in Lebanese schools, there was a need to rehabilitate classes to be adequate for students. Through Solidarity in Action, the school was able to renovate classes and refurbish them with the needed tools for students to comfortably learn.
The humanitarian project, initiated by Adyan in collaboration with Adyan Networks and the Forum for Religious Social Responsibility (FRSR), addressed the crisis of mass displacement resulting from military escalation in South Lebanon. Since the conflict's onset, thousands of individuals, mainly from southern Lebanese villages, have become internally displaced, seeking refuge in Tyre, Beirut, and other areas due to fear of war and economic hardship.
Through Solidarity in Action (SIA), we focused on providing immediate relief to displaced families. This included Food for 1100 individuals and urgent medications in 3 Shelters. The initiative aimed to enhance social cohesion among affected communities and will serve as a prototype for potential extended responses if the conflict intensifies. Adyan Foundation will support Adyan Networks and FRSR members on-ground efforts, ensuring stored items are available for future crises. The initiative seeks not only to meet immediate needs but also to foster solidarity and mutual aid among diverse communities affected by the crisis.
