This is to fund a weekly performance of a CLOWN duo during 1 year: 1-on-1 bedside visits to 1500 children in 2 pediatric services of Grenoble Hospital: Emergency & Oncologic care. A stay at the hospital can be frightening for children as well as for parents. Soleil Rouge offers personal, friendly and magic moments to children and adolescents through clown shows directly in the children rooms. Clowns are specifically trained to work in the sensitive hospital environment.
Children hospitalization is a huge stress factor affecting both sick child and parents particularly in the "heavy" medical services as Emergency & Oncologic care. Furthermore, due to the intensive care the sick child is no more a child but a sick person. Clown performance is adapted to the children's age and pathology and aligned with medical constraints: hygiene, safety, confidentiality and much more
The offered visits are a way to ease the medical care that children have to go through and help them and their families to fight their disease. At the end of the clowns visit the sick child returns to being a child again. Clowns visits help to establish a climate of confidence between the child, the family and their health-care team who support the clowns'interventions.
Professional clowns entertainments of sick children is an important contribution to the prevention of psychological complications in the short or long terms. Laughter allows the children and their parents to forget their medical concerns for a moment. It also allows a better collaboration with the medical staff and reduce the side effects of intensive treatments that are required when the diagnosis of a serious illness falls. The number of clowns visits in the concerned services is 1500/year
