Dear Friends,
Although our Solar Power for Safe Births and Disaster Response project is still building momentum, we are deeply grateful for the first two generous donations that have helped us take the first steps toward a more energy-secure future.
Recent events in Bali have shown just how vulnerable essential services can be when energy supplies are disrupted. This month, petrol shortages caused long queues and widespread disruption across the island as delayed fuel deliveries left stations struggling to keep up with demand. While this was a distribution crisis rather than a lack of fuel reserves, it was a powerful reminder of how quickly interruptions to essential energy supplies can affect daily life.
For Bumi Sehat, reliable electricity is not a luxury. It is essential for safe births, emergency care, sterilization, refrigeration of medicines, and disaster response. Our Aceh clinic already has solar panels, which have proved vital during frequent power outages, and we want to bring that same resilience to our Bali clinic.
We will start with a modest solar system and expand its battery capacity over time. Our goal is eventually to have enough stored energy to keep the clinic operating for a week or longer if a disaster takes down the power grid. As climate-related disruptions become more frequent and more severe, this independence from the grid will become increasingly important.
We are grateful to everyone who has helped us begin this journey. Every contribution brings Bumi Sehat one step closer to ensuring that when mothers, babies and families need us most, we can keep the lights on.
With love and gratitude,
Ibu Robin Lim and Team Bumi Sehat
