Our Solar Project Progress

By Team Bumi Sehat | Project Leaders

Dear Donors,

Although our Solar Power for Safe Births and Disaster Response project has only just begun, we are grateful for the first two generous donations. Installing solar power may seem an unusual priority for a maternal health clinic, but reliable electricity is essential for safe births, emergency care, sterilization, refrigeration of medicines, and disaster response. As climate-related disruptions and power outages become more frequent, energy security will help ensure Bumi Sehat can continue caring for mothers, babies, and the wider community when they need us most. Every contribution brings us one step closer to a more resilient future.

This is not the first time Bumi Sehat has done a solar installation project. Our Aceh clinic has solar panels that generate electricity for the clinic and is vital during the frequent power outages which occur in Aceh.

We have gotten a quote from a local solar company for a system that can function during the daytime when the sun is shining and has a small battery backup. The major expense of a solar system is in the battery storage units. So we will start small. As time goes on, we will add to the battery capacity of the system until the clinic is able to power itself for a week or longer during a disaster in which the power grid is not working. As disasters become more frequent and more devastating in the era of climate change, Bumi Sehat will be ready.

With love and gratitude

Ibu Robin Lim and Team Bumi Sehat
