This project will provide plug and play LED/Solar lighting Lamps and Phone charging system to light -up houses of poor rural villagers who are living under $2 - $5 PPP a day, currently using kerosene based lighting lamps in 500 households in Oraukwu Town,Anambra State, Nigeria enhancing environmental condition and enable villagers to work , children to study,more convenient phone charging and eliminating kerosene lanterns, leading to improving health while reducing Co2 emissions.
90 Million people or about 19 low - income rural households in Nigeria are without access to electricity according to ( IFC/WB Lighting Africa Program in Nigeria ), while in Oraukwu Community still more than 10,000 people or 2,000 households do not have access to electricity. The households are using kerosene lamps to light up their houses ,which are causing health hazards, affecting the environment adversely and studies of children and also unable to charge mobile phones.
The project will provide Solar Power to 2500 people enhancing environmental condition and enable villagers to work,children to study and eliminating kerosene lantern, never spend cash again on kerosene, leading to reduction of 60% or more in households energy cost,making it a potential contributor to improve their quality of life, providing more convenient phone charging, improving health while reducing Co2 emission. In addition, 20 rural youths will be trained in repair and maintenance.
Long term impact of this project is improvement in health of the families, better education of the children, increase in income potential and the enhancement in environment as a whole. ( As these 500 portable solar lighting products will result in reduction of 25 tons of green house gases Co2 pollution) over 15 years.
