Quarter1 January-March 2025 Project Report

 PROJECT: Help Smallholder Farmers Information Access in Uganda

 The project under name “Help Smallholder Farmers Information Access in Uganda” targets to strengthen capacity for timely information access by smallholder farmers as a requirement for timely and effective decisions for production, marketing, post-harvest management and transport.

CELEBRATED OUTCOME- Quarter1 January-March 2025 Achievements

Over 100 individuals in refugees and host community out of the target 1,000 have started enjoying access to the latest information for production in the last three months (quater1 Jan-March 2025) and started benefiting in Information dashboards placed at in one community center that display text, audio and videos that help farmers acquire techniques for modern production and harvesting, weather and flood forecasts, maps and landmarks, animal breeds, soil texture, crop seeds and seedlings, fertilizers, pesticides, land preparation, irrigation practices, market rates, market locations and transport meansin Nakivale refugee settlement and host community in Uganda.

 The project has currently started boosting famers productivity and savings for households Incomes as a need for supporting economic recovery in refugee and host communities through information dissemination displayed by information dashboards.

Completed Activities- Quarter1 Jan-Mar 2025.

  • Community/Beneficiaries identification, consultation and sensitization in 5 pilot famers sub zones.
  • Sensitization of community leadersin 5 pilot famers sub zones.
  • Identification of farmers target group representatives.
  • Acquisition of 1 information kiosks machine-dashboard.
  • Set up of 1 Information dashboard at 1 community/meeting center, programmed in local language to enable effective communication. Information is currently accessed through removable disks inserted in the information dashboards.

Planned Activities for Quarter2 April-June 2025

(Targeting over 200 smallholder farmers to have access to timely information)

  • Acquisition of 2 information kiosks Machines-Dashboards.
  • Setup of 2 Information Dashboards in 2 pyhsical sites for in 2 farmer sub zones.
  • Set up of Information Dashboard UPDATE Center and configure wireless connection to the 3 community centers and programming of dashboards local language.
  • Commence visual/video Content development by the Agriculture sector consultants for professional information

Next Quarter2 (April-June 2025) BUDGET SUMMARY- USD 62,385

 Operational Overhead costs= 26,876

Programs Activities=35,509

Grand total=USD 62,385

NOTE:

EXPECTED FROM LOCAL SOURCES=USD 12,000

EXPECTED FROM GLOBAL GIVING=USD 50,385

TOTAL PROJECT BUDGET (April-June 2025)=USD 62,385

 Existing Challenges:

  • Slow decision making by authorities in providing secure community meeting centers to facility faster setting up information access centers.
  • Ineffective community mobilization facilities-use one mobile pickup to play recorded mobilization messages.
  • Limited funds for research, mobilization and monitoring tools.
  • Illiteracy of target persons-they are slow in information/skills interpretation for the displayed information.
  • Communication barriers with the target groups especially the refugees
