Consider a donation that will go a long way to providing comfort and care to our unhoused neighbors.
When we distributed the sleeping bags, we heard the following stories from the recipients:
Story #1:
Our outreach team encountered a man who was homeless and sleeping in the subway. He disclosed to the team that he has been homeless since November after his mother passed away. The landlord let him stay in his mother's house temporarily after her death, but he was eventually asked to leave the premises since he was not on the lease. The man has apprehensions about going into a shelter because he feels that "it's safer outside". He needed a sleeping bag to help him stay warm while sleeping in the subway for shelter.
Story #2
We met a person who had been sleeping in various parks. He has been homeless for two years and does not want to enter the shelter system because of hygiene and safety concerns. He stated that "this is his last year on the street," and he believes that a sleeping bag can help him have an extra layer of warmth during the freezing winter months.
Due to recipients wishing to remain anonymous for safety reasons, we have not provided any photos of people receiving the bags.
