Tailoring School Makes a Little Go a Long Way!

By Rachel Winter | Volunteers Coordinator

The Chosen Few Tailoring Workshop
The Chosen Few Tailoring Workshop

We were delighted to receive the following letter recently from Rose Kabasinguzi Mugenyi, the founder and director of Sky Is The Limit Children's Centre in Fort Portal, Western Uganda, detailing how your donations have already helped our partners to make several improvements to their tailoring school and workshop, The Chosen Few Tailors. These in turn have led to increased profits, allowing Rose and her team to buy much needed food supplements for the pupils living with HIV/AIDS at Sky Is The Limit's primary school. Here is what she wrote:

Dear Ecologia Youth Trust,

We thank you for the funds you sent for the tailoring school. The funds enabled us to buy three sewing machines, one knitting machine (for sweaters) and fabrics, threads and other items like buttons, elastic, waist bands, and oil.

We were able to pay the workshop rental fee, license, and water and electricity bills.

We able to facilitate the trainers and provide materials for the trainees.

We also managed to meet their transportation costs.

The tailoring school employs seven people, each specialised in different fields.

The school has seven students at the moment. We would have recruited more trainees but we lack enough space to accommodate more, as well as the sewing machines, knitting machines and other materials we would need for them to be trained.

The tailoring shop made some profits which helped us with the trainers’ top-up and general administration costs. We also used part of the profits to purchase some supplementary food for those pupils at our primary school who are living with HIV/AIDS, in order to boost their immunity.

The Chosen Few Tailors would make more money if we had our own workshop. We hope that you can continue to raise seed funds to help us build the tailoring school into a thriving business, where local people and our graduates can learn skills that will enable them to find work and support their children and families.

On behalf of Sky Is The Limit Children’s Centre and its Chosen Few Tailoring School, we thank all those who generously contributed to this project. Please continue to support us and share our successes with your friends and family.

Best regards,

Rose

We are truly amazed at how a relatively small amount of money has brought about so many positive changes. Thank you! Please spread the word about our campaign so that we can reach our fundraising target and help us to realise Rose's dreams for Sky's own workshop. With your help, we can support Sky Is The Limit Children's Centre to become more self-sustainable; create employment and skills training opportunities for the local community; and fund school meals for the children it is educating and caring for.
