We can make a difference for Lakota families. The housing situation in Wounded Knee is unspeakably bad. Families are either crowded into flimsy particle-board houses full of black mold or into flimsy FEMA trailers full of black mold.
Our focus this summer is to help Joe Fast Horse and his wife and two children to begin construction of a "dome-home" on the land that is his by tradition. The house will be tucked in a grove of pine trees in the protection of a beautiful windblown ridge. It has a wide territorial view of grasslands.
Joe has been a steadfast volunteer on houses for others during prior summers, and now international volunteers will be assisting him. His family is entirely dependent on your generous donations for materials to keep the volunteers busy. Thank you for doing what you can.

Today is GlobalGiving "Matching Day" and our urgently needed house-building project in Pine Ridge, South Dakota will get an extra 30% matching bonus with your donation.
The matching starts at 9am ET and goes until the matching funds are all allocated, which usually takes not more than half a day. So please donate immediately if you can.
Our project leader, Lakota elder Christinia Eala, just keeps on plugging, stretching every dollar past the breaking point, organizing volunteers and donated materials for next summer's build. After building supplies, the biggest and least avoidable expense is for gasoline. The nearest building supply is a two-hour drive away, in Rapid City, and volunteers must be transported back and forth to the airport as well.
Your donation not only enables the work, but it also sends a strong message to the beleaguered Lakota people that the American public does care about solving the problems we have collectively created for indigenous peoples. Thank you for both previous and future donations!!!

Tomorrow morning, you'll have an opportunity to contribute toward the construction of safe housing on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and a matching grant will increase your gift.
Our Lakota partner Christinia Eala has to make preparations now, while the temperatures are still frigid, to be ready for next season's volunteer builders of safe eco-friendly homes for Lakota children. The situation on the reservation is truly as bad as any Third World slum, and if the families leave their land to try to improve their lives, they lose not only their land, but their culture as well.
Those of us who have benefitted from Native American lands need to right this situation. Please help Christinia be ready to bring hope to these families.
We'll send you a link in the morning when the matching grant begins. Thank you for your continuing generosity!!
