For the second year, Sisterhood Agenda implemented SHE: Sisters Healthy & Empowered in celebration of National Women’s Health Week during the week of Monday, May 14, 2012-Friday, May 18, 2012. Each day of the week from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, Sisterhood Agenda provided SHE activities, health information and coordinate fitness demonstrations for residents in St. John.
Overweight/obesity, hypertension, diabetes, lupus, HIV/AIDS, various forms of cancer, stroke, heart disease, uterine fibroids, premature births, infant death, violence, lack of health care... “We have to heal ourselves. Many
of us suffer from health problems that are chronic. We can start by taking the time to move our bodies and make good decisions when it comes to eating healthy,” states Angela D. Coleman, Sisterhood Agenda President. “We can also become more aware about what causes distress in our
lives. At least 30 minutes a few days a week could save your life.”
Sisterhood Agenda gave away 85 SHE health kits. Local disc jockey, DJ Top Notch, played music everyday of the event while local fitness experts such as Earl Thomas, Keryn C. Bryan, and Patrice Johnson will demonstrate activities like Pilates, women’s self-defense, and Zumba Fitness. All activities took place at Franklin Powell Park during lunchtime hours from 12:30pm-1:30pm, Monday, May 14, 2012 through Friday, May 18, 2012.
For its SHE celebration in St. John, Sisterhood Agenda had support from the following local food markets that donated foods to promote healthy eating habits: Deli Grotto, Pine Peace Market & St. John Ice Company.
