The Solarized Homes to Improve and Nurture Education (SHINE) Program, seeks to solarize the homes of our partner communities. The SHINE Program was first introduced to Sitio Green Valley, Kiamba, Sarangani, Philippines in 2017 and has been replicated to other areas in the Philippines. SHINE Green Valley has been on of the longest ongoing project of Foundation for Rural Electrification for Economic Development (FREED).
Chief Lorenzo has been the chief of sitio Tulad, a sitio of the SHINE Green Valley Project, for more than 13 years now. At 35 years old, Chief Lorenzo is one of the youngest running chieftains that the foundation has ever encountered by far. Chief Lorenzo has the interesting opportunity and capability of having a balance between power and compassion for his people. Being the tribe’s chief, he is well respected and admired by his constituents, however, being as young as he is, he also has the natural ability of understanding what is most important to the youth. It is for this reason that he is well known to be very passionate about education and educating the youth in his community.
As we began our initiatives to establish a partnership, and introducing our solar and development programs with the Green Valley community, Chief Lorenzo was one of our main supporters. He understood what benefits our programs would bring to his community, and his tribe was steadfast in his decisions and dreams for them in this program. With his leadership, vision, and mutual trust with his people, his tribe has, by far, been able to accomplish their requirements for the program. Chief Lorenzo has reiterated, in great confidence, his strong commitment to this project and hopes to see more positive results to come about from this program.
