Let's celebrate Dr. Sharon Berry's many achievements through the creation of "Sharon's Garden," a grove of 20 organically grown fruit trees at the headquarters for Music for Life Africa Foundation (MULIA) in Uganda, an organization serving economically disadvantaged youth. Additional funds raised will go toward MULIA's gardening program, including purchasing a rain tank to assist with sustainable irrigation, solar panels to provide electricity to the classrooms, and ongoing garden maintenance.
Sharon has already helped so many children, families, and future psychologists in her roles as the Associate Clinical Director of Minneapolis Psychological Services at Children's Minnesota and as the Director of Training for its nationally accredited doctoral clinical internship. This garden will honor Sharon's love of children, education, and health promotion with a place of lasting beauty that will continue to blossom and give back to the community year after year.
MULIA will place a sign letting visitors know that this is "Sharon's Garden -- honoring Dr. Sharon Berry and her dedication to helping children and new psychologists learn and grow." Sharon will also receive a video thank you message from the kids there. If we raise enough funds to purchase a rain tank, they will put up a plaque saying "MULIA is grateful to these friends of Dr. Sharon Berry who have given us this gift of clean water!" listing the name of all of the donors who want to be listed.
The trees will provide nutrition for the kids, who are often malnourished. The whole community will have the opportunity to gain crucial skills in sustainable agriculture. Planting trees will help combat climate change by reversing desertification in Africa and preventing soil erosion. If additional funds are received, MULIA would be thrilled to purchase a rain collection tank and/or solar panels as they are "off the grid" and do not have easy access to water or electricity.
