Project Overview
The Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking, Storytelling (67187) project is an advocacy and awareness initiative implemented by Voices of the Defenseless. The project seeks to raise awareness about sexual abuse and human trafficking while providing a safe platform where survivors can share their experiences through storytelling.
The initiative aims to amplify survivor voices, reduce stigma, educate communities, and promote prevention while ensuring survivors receive compassionate and ethical support.
2. Progress Update
Since the project was listed on GlobalGiving, implementation has progressed gradually due to limited financial donations. Despite these constraints, our team has continued to prepare the foundation for the storytelling initiative while supporting survivors in the community.
Survivor Engagement and Case Documentation
Our organization has continued identifying and engaging survivors of sexual abuse and human trafficking within the community. Through these engagements, we have been able to document experiences and identify individuals who may be willing to share their stories in safe and structured storytelling sessions once the project receives sufficient funding.
Community Awareness Conversations
Our volunteers have continued conducting informal community awareness conversations focused on:
The dangers and warning signs of human trafficking
The impact of sexual abuse on individuals and families
Encouraging communities to report abuse and protect vulnerable individuals
Promoting survivor support and reducing stigma
These small-scale awareness efforts are helping to build trust and openness within the community.
Medical Equipment Support
Although the project has received $176 donations through GlobalGiving, Voices of the Defenseless received a donation of medical equipment from Miga Solution. This in-kind contribution has strengthened our ability to support survivors who may require basic medical attention or referrals.
The equipment has improved our preparedness to respond to cases involving survivors of abuse and trafficking, particularly those who may need immediate medical assessment or support before sharing their experiences. Access to basic medical resources also helps ensure that survivor wellbeing and safety remain a priority during engagement and documentation processes.
3. Funding Status
At the time of this report, the project has received $176 financial donations through GlobalGiving. This has limited the organization’s ability to fully implement planned storytelling activities, documentation work, and broader awareness campaigns.
However, the medical equipment donation from Miga Solution represents an important step in strengthening survivor support services as we continue to seek funding for the project.
4. Activities Awaiting Funding
Once financial resources become available, the project will implement the following planned activities:
Organizing safe storytelling forums for survivors
Recording written, audio, and digital survivor stories
Hosting community dialogue and awareness sessions
Launching online and community awareness campaigns
Training volunteers in trauma-informed storytelling
Providing psychosocial support during storytelling activities
These activities will ensure survivor stories are shared responsibly and used to promote awareness and prevention.
5. Challenges
The main challenge affecting project implementation is the lack of financial resources, which limits the ability to:
Organize storytelling events
Document and produce survivor stories
Provide transportation and logistics for participants
Conduct large-scale awareness campaigns
Offer structured counseling during storytelling sessions
Despite these challenges, the organization continues engaging survivors and communities while preparing for full implementation.
6. Lessons Learned
From the early stages of this project, several lessons have emerged:
Survivors are more willing to share their experiences when safety and support systems are in place.
Community awareness is essential in preventing abuse and trafficking.
Survivor wellbeing must always be prioritized when conducting storytelling initiatives.
In-kind support, such as medical equipment, plays an important role in strengthening survivor care.
7. Looking Ahead
Voices of the Defenseless remains committed to implementing the Sexual Abuse and Human Trafficking Storytelling Project once funding becomes available.
Our priorities moving forward include:
Launching structured storytelling sessions
Expanding survivor outreach and documentation
Strengthening community awareness programs
Using storytelling as a tool for advocacy and prevention
8. Conclusion
Although the project is still in its early phase due to limited financial resources, important groundwork has been laid through survivor engagement, community awareness, and the strengthening of survivor support services.
The medical equipment donation from Miga Solution and little donation from GlobalGiving has helped improve our preparedness to assist survivors and reinforces our commitment to providing safe and supportive environments for those affected by abuse and trafficking.
Voices of the Defenseless remains dedicated to amplifying survivor voices and continuing the fight against sexual abuse and human trafficking.
