Believes Survivors, Listens Without JudgmentGlobalGiving Project 67187
Voices of the Defenseless is grateful to the donors and supporters who have continued to believe in this project. Although the funds raised are still not enough to fully implement everything we originally planned, we have received a little more in donations since our previous report. These additional contributions have helped keep the project alive and allowed us to continue supporting the work rather than having to stop completely.
Progress Made
The purpose of this project is to create a safe space where survivors of sexual abuse and human trafficking are believed, listened to without judgment, and supported according to their needs and wishes.
With the limited resources available, we have continued our survivor-centered work. We continue to listen to survivors and provide guidance, encouragement, and advocacy when they reach out to us. We recognize that every survivor's situation is different, and we do not make decisions for survivors. Instead, we listen to what they need and help them understand possible options for moving forward.
The project has also continued to provide a platform for survivors to share their experiences through writing and storytelling. We believe that survivors should have the opportunity to tell their stories in their own voices when they choose to do so. Storytelling can help bring attention to issues that are often hidden and can help society understand the long-term effects of sexual abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking.
The small amount of additional funding has helped us maintain this work and continue reaching survivors and community members despite the financial limitations.
What We Have Learned
One of the most important lessons from this project is that survivors need more than simply being told to report abuse. Many survivors have lived with fear, shame, rejection, financial hardship, or a lack of trust in systems that were supposed to protect them.
Listening without judgment is therefore an important first step.
We have also learned that survivor support requires resources. Counseling, emergency accommodation, medical care, legal assistance, advocacy, and other forms of support cannot be provided consistently without adequate funding. While we continue to do what we can with the resources available, the need is much greater than our current capacity.
Challenges
The greatest challenge remains inadequate funding.
The additional donations have been very important because they have helped keep the project active, but they are still far below what is needed to implement the full project plan. Because of the limited funding, we have not been able to provide all the services at the scale originally envisioned.
In particular, sustained funding is needed for counseling, temporary emergency accommodation, medical support, legal guidance, survivor advocacy, and storytelling and writing activities.
We do not want survivors to believe that we have forgotten them simply because resources are limited. We continue to listen, advocate, and look for ways to respond to their needs within our capacity.
Impact of Continued Support
Every donation, no matter how small, has helped us keep this work moving.
The recent additional donations have made a meaningful difference because they have allowed the project to remain active instead of becoming dormant. They have given us the ability to continue our survivor-centered work and maintain a platform where survivors can be heard.
For us, success is not only measured by the number of people reached. It is also measured by whether a survivor knows that someone is willing to listen, believe them, respect their choices, and stand with them.
Looking Ahead
Our goal is to continue building this project as funding becomes available. We hope to expand our ability to provide direct support to survivors and strengthen our storytelling and advocacy work.
We are especially seeking additional funding so that we can provide more consistent counseling referrals and support, emergency assistance, medical referrals, legal guidance, survivor advocacy, and opportunities for survivors to tell their stories safely and with dignity.
We remain committed to listening to survivors and acting according to their wishes.
A Message to Our Donors
We sincerely thank everyone who has contributed to this project. The funds may still be small, but they matter.
Your support has helped keep this project alive.
We ask our supporters to continue standing with Voices of the Defenseless as we work toward a future where survivors are believed, listened to without judgment, and given meaningful opportunities to seek safety, justice, healing, and dignity.
We cannot do everything with the resources we currently have, but we can continue doing what we canand we will continue.
Thank you for believing in survivors and helping us keep their voices heard.
