“It feels amazing to see people from different countries care about the same issue!”

— 49-year-old, Student

"Designing Sex Ed for Children: CSE International Online Forum 2024" brought together experts and educators from Taiwan, the United States, Japan, and Hong Kong. They shared real-life examples and experiences to show how comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is being developed and taught in different places. More than 200 people from various countries and professions joined the event, making it a truly global conversation about sex education.

Throughout the forum, we witnessed countless moments like this—when speakers from different regions came together with their experiences and passion, opening up space for meaningful discussions on CSE.

One participant shared, “The practical approaches and lesson plan designs gave me a clearer understanding of how to implement sex education courses.” Another reflected, “It is good for me to learn practices about CSE in each country. There are many things which I have heard for the first time.”

Key Moments from the Forum

  • Leah Loveday from the U.S. shared how she promotes menstrual education in underprivileged communities, ensuring that students no longer miss school due to a lack of menstrual products.
  • Noriko HIGAMI from Japan described the challenges she faced in integrating sex education into public schools and how she persisted despite opposition.
  • Teen’s Key Hong Kong introduced an “unplanned pregnancy simulation” that allowed students to experience firsthand the social and emotional realities tied to sexual health decisions.
  • In Taiwan, we used “gender-inclusive restrooms” as a starting point for discussion, encouraging students to examine the needs of diverse communities through a human rights lens.
  • Sometimes, change is not a grand revolution, but a series of small yet powerful moments—when teachers find the courage to speak up, when students start asking questions, and when people no longer shy away from issues that were once left unspoken.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, to those who spoke up bravely, and to those who believe in the importance of these conversations.

This forum was not just an event—it was the beginning of something bigger.
