Sili had a skill in her hands-but no way to use it
In her small village of Pajwenda, she helped a colleague who had a machine, dreaming of one day owning a sewing machine. But like many young women around her, opportunity felt out of reach. Without tools, without capital, her talent remained hidden, and income was uncertain.
She was not alone.
Eight other young women shared the same struggle-trained, determined, but held back by poverty.
Then hope arrived.
Through support of Development Alert and generous friends like yourself, nine young female tailors received brand new sewing machines and start-up fabrics. For the first time, Sili sat behind her own machine, her foot gently pressing the pedal as fabric came to life beneath her hands.
What began as a simple intervention became a turning point.
Today, these nine women are running their own tailoring businesses. They are earning income, supporting their families, and standing with confidence in their communities.
The sound of sewing machines now fills their days-not as noise, but as a rhythm of independence and possibility.
This is more than livelihood. It is dignity restored, dreams revived, and futures rewritten.
And this is only the beginning.
