Threads of Hope: Empowering Women Through Skills in Pakistan
Organization
Supported by: Moses Welfare Foundation
Executive Summary
Across Pakistan, thousands of women live under the burden of poverty, unemployment, social inequality, and economic dependence. Widows, single mothers, divorced women, and girls from low-income families are among the most vulnerable members of society. Without education, vocational skills, or financial opportunities, many women are forced into unsafe labor, domestic exploitation, and environments where they face harassment, abuse, and violence.
The “Threads of Hope” project was established to provide vulnerable women with a pathway toward dignity, protection, and economic independence through vocational sewing and tailoring training.
This initiative creates safe and supportive skills centers where women can learn sewing, tailoring, embroidery, and small business skills. Through practical vocational training, women gain the ability to earn sustainable incomes from home or through small enterprises, reducing dependence and improving their quality of life.
More than vocational education, this project restores confidence, hope, and self-worth to women who have spent years struggling for survival. Every skill learned becomes an opportunity for protection, empowerment, and a brighter future for their families and communities.
Background and Social Context
In many underprivileged communities in Pakistan, women face severe economic and social barriers. Due to poverty, limited education, cultural restrictions, and unemployment, women often lack opportunities to support themselves financially.
Widows and single mothers are especially vulnerable. Many are forced to work as domestic cleaners in wealthy households where they frequently face:
Without vocational skills or access to safe employment opportunities, these women remain trapped in cycles of poverty and dependence.
At the same time, many girls are unable to continue their education due to financial hardship. Without skills training or employment opportunities, they face uncertain futures and social vulnerability.
Pakistan’s economic challenges, rising inflation, and unemployment have increased the urgency for sustainable women’s empowerment initiatives that provide both protection and economic opportunity.
