The Lotus Kids' Club provides education, clothing, and basic healthcare to street-working children, their families and the community as the keys to lifting families out of poverty and preventing the spread of human trafficking and exploitation. Your donation helps us fund two preschool programs, a scholarship program, whole-family development, and community-building initiatives in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
40 percent of the population in Cambodia earns less than $1.25 a day (UNDP, 2009). Because of their economic situation, children are forced to work for a living to help their families instead of going to school. Many children in rural areas such as Siem Reap have never gone to school and work as garbage pickers, domestic servants, and porters. Without education, people have less access to work because they lack the competencies and experience for higher skill jobs.
This project has a Pre-School Program, a Sponsorship Program, a Family Program, and a Community Drop-in Program. The purpose of the Pre-School Program is to prepare children for primary school, as well as providing nutritional supplements and health care. The Sponsorship Program helps children by giving them resources and materials necessary for staying in school. The Family Program provides education, resources, and support to families. The drop-in program provides educational resources.
One of Senhoa's main goals is to prevent the spread of human trafficking by helping to alleviate the vulnerability of the population we work with. Education was identified as one of the best ways in which the cycle of poverty, which is passed down from one generation to the next, could be broken. The primary purpose of Lotus Kids Club is to promote education, to give the necessary tools and support for them to succeed, and to provide children an opportunity to obtain an education.
