Too much fun at Sanyuka Camp?

By Kimberly Hanson | Resource Mobilization Officer

Sanyuka Camp was a big hit in Kampala, Uganda!

From May 11-15 and 18-22, we held two sessions of Sanyuka Camp for 78 9-11 year old campers and eight 15-17 year old camp leaders in training. It was our 8th year and it just keeps getting better!

Campers were offered an opportunity to identify their potential, empowered with life skills and knowledge through team building activities, games, and health education in a safe, loving and supportive environment. We successfully accomplished our objective of increasing camper knowledge and understanding on facts about living with HIV and encouraging of medical responsibility and treatment adherence.

Campers did arts and crafts like book making, learned how to swim in a pool, figured out puzzles, performed and observed drama skits, and had a lot of fun!

Our friends from Serious Fun facilitated a four day residential leadership training to prepare staff for the responsibilities. Other friends in attendance were staff from Baylor Botswana and Baylor Tanzania who came on an exchange program.

We are very grateful to our donors to this campaign, Robert Mukasa, Ellen Heleen, and other anonymous individuals who helped to make our dreams of camp this year a reality. Our campers had a life changing experience that they will never forget!
