This project will mobilize 500 vulnerable street children (working as child labour) and their families in 50 slums in Berhampur city in Odisha by supporting them basic needs to go back to school and arrange alternate teaching and learning facilities by setting mini library (books and study materials) and sports equipment with in the slums.
Child labour situation in Berhampur is 3.5% (2011 census) and worsen day by day similarly school dropout rate 2.8% in 2015-16 (Economic Survey, 2016-17) due to poverty, lack of interest among children, poor facilities in schools. And the poor implementation of right to education, lack of facilities like library, sports, sufficient teacher, the learning and education of the street children living in slums are mostly affected. And they engage in child labour and their future becomes uncertain.
YSD will provide basic facilities like education kit, library and sports facilities with in the slums and mobilize children and their families to restrain from child labour and send them back to school. On the other hand libraries and sport facilities with in the slums help them to create their interest and better learning.
This initiative will enroll 500 street children in school and ensure quality education with extra curricular facilities in school and with in the slum. This ultimate help the families to have educated children and help them to come out of poverty in the long run. Children will get better employment opportunities and a have decent standard of living and a bright future and contribute to further development of their society.
