Raghav was 8 years old when his parents came to know about State Learning Center operated by Aaina for children and people with disabilities. Raghav is a child with cerebral palsy affecting his mobility and functional vision and hearing skills. He would be sitting at home all day and was caused self injuries. His mother tied him most of the time to avoid the injuries. There was attention deficit and improper eye hand coordination as well. Lack of fine motor skills made his daily activities such as holding a glass, eating food independently nearly impossible. During the survey Raghav’s mother explained the situation and hoped for his son to at least independently eat, walk and manage with basic daily activities. Situation was grim but not hopeless as the child had potential. The professionals at the center were ready to facilitate in the process of development.
With perseverance, dedication of Raghav, his parents and staff, accompanied by therapy things started slowly improving. Initially the walking was with support of two hands and then with one. It was more of a mental insecurity than physical inability that restricted Raghav from walking without support. The therapies and practice continued for a year that included many falls and anxieties but nothing stopped the dedication and regularity. His mother would cry at times though when she felt like venting out her feelings.
One year is complete, and today Raghav can make good eye contact, can walk without support for some time, eats solid food by himself and has much better attention span! His mother is filled with joy and hope. She does not leave a chance to boast with joy and show people residing in her community when her son walks independently. She is seeing the signs of what she hoped for and a dream has come true! There is a shift in Raghav’s father’s attitude as well. Seeing the development his father is now motivated and looks forward for further development. Most importantly Raghav himself now smiles more, laughs and enjoys life better. His mother remarked she will throw a party when Raghav starts walking independently! She shares with joy that the organization has really worked hard with her son to bring the positive change. However, this change could not have been possible without parents dedication, timely and regular services, utilization of apt aids and appliances for which you have supported regularly. We truly appreciate your regular support in the process and encourage you to continue holding our hands. It is a moment of joy for you all as well. We want you to celebrate and also request to spread the news with your friends and people who care.
Once again thanks so much.
