Project Report | Aug 27, 2013
10 young volunteers join the work

By Tlalana team | Coordination of the project

From February 18th to May 13th we trained young volunteers for 40 hrs using theoretical-practical sessions.

With this, now Tlalana has 10 new facilitators trained on subjects like building collective knowledge, skills for a living, popular education, social development, human rights and collaborative projects. This was the 3rd year in a row that the training is executed with outstanding results.

As Rubí -one of the current volunteers that is now part of Tlalana's facilitaror- explains: “the most significant learning achievements are related to identifying some concepts such as social development, assistencialism, paternalism, facilitators, promoters…”

Another new facilitator tells her experience: “For me it was about acquiring knowledge but also learning from others, though dialogues with peers I have seen that there are different ways of understanding development”

This process has allowed us to go out on field work, applying what was learned and ensuring constant training and exchange of experiences in order to build strong local promoters capable of improving their environment.

An example of this is Cristina, who took the course and that works in low income neighbourhoods of Mexico City. Within the collective named Secuoyas, Cristina promotes street art as a tool for consciousness and organization.

We will keep you updated with the work being done by new members in the team and of course the forthcoming activities like Tlalan's colloquim and the Seminary for communal practices for education and self-management.
