In December, the graduations of our three agricultural schools were held: the Cerrito Agricultural School in Benjamín Aceval, the Belén Agricultural School in Concepción and the San Pedro Agricultural School. A total of 66 young people from rural areas obtained the degree of agricultural promoters in Belén and San Pedro; and, agricultural technical graduates and in hospitality and tourism, in Cerrito.
For three years the students studied under the financially self-sustainable (FSS) education model, in a boarding school regime, under the motto of “Learning by doing, selling and earning”, accompanied by teachers who are specialized in different areas.
“You come from very brave families, fathers and mothers who work in the field; now you are ready to go out there and improve your realities, always respecting what your parents have done, but you have to aim and reach higher, you have all the tools and skills to be true rural entrepreneurs,” said PhD. Martín Burt, Executive Director of Fundación Paraguaya, at the graduation ceremony in Belén.
36 students graduated in Cerrito, 17 in Belén, and 13 in San Pedro. The three schools have young people, men and women, who came from different areas of the country and even from neighboring countries such as Bolivia, and from indigenous communities. One aspect to note is that for the first time, the best graduate of Belén is a young woman from the indigenous community of Manitova, from the Espajín community, from the Department of San Pedro.
All the graduates presented a business plan and, to implement them, they received a line of credit from Fundación Paraguaya. The students spend one week in the classroom and another one in the field, in the productive units, from the first to the third year of high school –which are the last 3 years of high school. They graduate with the necessary tools to start a business, work in the fields with their families and improve their productions, or continue studying.
“Do not be afraid to face the world, be determined and go after what you want; study, work, train, you are ready to succeed,” PhD. Martín Burt said in another moment.
The three agricultural schools of Fundación Paraguaya use the theoretical-practical teaching method, under the innovative self-sustaining education model, which was recognized and awarded at an international level and is being implemented in several countries around the world.
