Many rural, marginalized Colombian learners lack high-quality, pedagogically appropriate learning resources, particularly important in primary and elementary education to develop basic reading, writing, and math skills, as well as promote higher-level thinking skills and autonomous learning. This reality continues to broaden the gap between rural and urban education, perpetuating inequality and poverty.
With the funds received for this project, last week we provided self-paced, self-directed set of Pre-K Learning Guides to 60 under-resourced students from four rural schools of Putumayo, Tolima, and Magdalena (Colombia). We also delivered two sets of 2nd-grade guides (language, math, science, social studies, technology, ethics) to a school in Bucaramanga (Santander) that requested our support because of a fire accident occurred in one of the classrooms (https://bit.ly/4chLyN1).
The educational material delivered, designed with the Escuela Nueva methodology, has proven effective in promoting cooperative, participatory, and active learning, as well as developing strong social and emotional skills. It links learning experiences with the family and the community and stimulates the development of critical thinking, creativity, and 21st-century skills.
