Dear Valued Partner:
Thank you for making a difference to women's communities in Meru, Kenya! This past April 500 women from 3 community gardens at Kieru, Kanjai and Nchiru villages gathered to collect bean seeds for eating now and for planting at their homes. All women participants were trained by EACF in best practices for growing beans. Each partner received 30 kilograms of red beans, "Wairimu", because this variety grows well during the short rains. This is the first time that we are distributing seeds directly instead of seedlings. Bean seeds can be eaten now and can be planted to grow food. It is also the first time that the women are collecting legumes instead of greens. Food insecurity has increased due to higher food prices from both COVID and the war in Ukraine. Staple food items cost 38% more. Women in our community garden program feed an average of five children.
You make all of this possible. Thank you for your support! Please consider a Mother's Day gift to help other mothers grow healthy food for their children to fight food insecurity!
With sincere gratitude,
East African Children’s Fund
