A member of SEED Canada visited SJA this summer to check up on the school's progress. The school has expanded over the past two years and now has a second floor and over 80 students ages 3-8. The school has three classrooms and three teachers, along with a school administrator. Parents are engaged in income-generating activities to support the school, such as jewelry making. SEED is now selling jewely on Etsy.com as a means to support the school (SEEDJewelryandCrafts).
All students continue to be fed two meals a day. Food prices in Kenya went up in June/July 2015, so the annual budget for the school has also increased. Teacher salaries were also increased to ensure a fair wage. Efforts are being made in Canada and Kenya to solicit donations and raise funds to continue supporting the feeding program.
A former SEED University graduate is running a business training workshop for parents at the school, to train them in initiating and sustaining small businesses in the slum.
