Ediget chora school was established kebele 02 of negele Borena town in year 2007 by local communities by making use of a military camp which was evacuated during the downfall of the Dergue in 1991. This school hosts 170 students whose parents are economically poor and less privileged in socio-economic development aspects. The project solves the problem by finding solutions to the top urgent needs namely renovation of class rooms, furnishing of furniture and provision of text books.
There are more than 170 students who pursue schooling at Ediget chora primary and secondary cycle school that was established by local communities by making use of an ex-army military camp. The school has dilapidated classrooms and lacks furniture, textbooks and teaching aid materials. Morale of teachers has declined due to unfavorable teaching-learning environment and the parents (ex-army members and veterans) have no income to send their children to other better off schools.
The existing class rooms are mud plastered and the floor is dusty. The classrooms have erected there for many years without maintenance and at the level of total damage. The project solves the problem by renovating 5 class rooms by doing masonry, carpentry and painting works. To improve the safety and motivation of school kids, the project will supply relevant furniture (e.g desks, tables) and equipment in addition to provision of text books and teaching aid materials.
The project will create safe and appealing teaching learning environment for 170 students who have no other options to pursue education. There will also be high school retention rate, aspirations for better change, enhanced academic performances and better grade results, and decreased occurrence of communicable and non-communicable diseases. Teachers will be happy to remain in their jobs and the parents (ex-army members and veterans) will be more satisfied.
