Deir ez-Zour's education system in Syria has suffered extensive damage, leaving many schools unsafe and unusable. This project will rehabilitate one prioritized school, Saleh Hajj Ahmed or Ghanem Taha Al-Turki, restoring classrooms, sanitation, and essential facilities. Once renewed, the school will provide a safe learning environment for 525 students, helping them return to education and reducing the risks of dropout and child labor. Schools mentioned have been carefully evaluated.
Deir ez-Zor's education sector has suffered severe destruction after years of intense conflict. Across the governorate, dozens of schools were fully destroyed, 163 are partially damaged, and over 240 remain in urgent need of rehabilitation, leaving thousands of children without safe, functional learning spaces. The lack of restored schools prevents education from resuming and deepens long-term disruption for the entire community.
This project will rehabilitate one prioritized school in Deir ez-Zor by restoring damaged classrooms, repairing windows and doors, fixing sanitation and water systems, improving electrical safety, and providing essential furniture. Once renewed, the school will offer a safe, functional, and inclusive learning environment for 525 students, enabling them to return to education with dignity and stability.
Rehabilitating this school will restore stable access to education for 525 students each year, reducing dropout rates and the risks of child labor. A safe, functional school strengthens community resilience in Deir ez-Zor, supports long-term recovery, and helps rebuild the education system after years of conflict and destruction. The renewed facility will serve generations of children.
