At the School I feel protected and respected!
In the last quarter of the year 2023, 753 children from nine (9) schools in rural areas of the municipalities of Riohacha, Manaure, Maicao and Uribia in the department of La Guajira, who were selected based on a diagnosis because they were at risk of dropping out of school due to low academic performance, were assisted with recreational-pedagogical strategies that allowed them to strengthen their academic and socio-emotional skills.
During school reinforcement activities, tutors motivate children to interact with their peers, working together to achieve goals in an active and meaningful way, discovering their potential to share with others. This interaction generates more understanding and cooperation among all to advance in their personal and academic development, providing warmth and support among all to advance in achieving their goals.
This learning based on socioemotional skills promotes better academic performance and keeps children away from risky behaviors both individually and in groups, since it will help them manage their emotions, know themselves better, set goals and move towards them, build better relationships with others, reduce aggression and make better decisions for their lives, which has allowed children who participate in the learning centers to stay in school and make positive progress in their academic goals.
An example of this progress is the case of Sharit and Adriana, who have found in the learning centers an opportunity to overcome their difficulties in learning and relating to their classmates. Adriana mentions that the activities have helped her to improve her behavior and she integrates easily and positively with everyone at school. Sharit, for his part, mentions that he likes to share with his tutor and his classmates, he says that he learned the vowels with music, and is progressing with learning the alphabet, and mentions that he does not want to leave the learning centers because he likes to have fun and learn.
