While trying to address the issues regarding enrollment of underprivileged children in Govt. schools in rural parts of India, we realised that despite Govt. education being almost free of cost, many children did not take the first step towards the school, simply because they did not have the very basic school supplies. As a humble attempt to change this situation we started a School Kit Sponsorship program. This project is now being executed yearly before the beginning of the new academic year.
Govt School education in India is almost free of cost. Despite of this many schools, especially in rural India face a challenge to enroll students. One of the main reasons for this is that children usually come from economically poor backgrounds and their parents are not willing to or are incapable of spending the money required to purchase the very basic school supplies. This basic requirement therefore prevents these children from getting an education.
Through this project, we raise funds and purchase basic school supplies at economical rates. These school kits are then distributed to the needy children at the school premises during the beginning of the new academic year. This intervention helps numerous students take their first steps into a school. We have received very good responses from the school authorities who confirm that this project has helped them in enrolling and retaining new students.
This project will directly help around 3000 children to either take their first steps towards a school or help them stay in school. Most of these children are first generation school goers and providing them with an opportunity to gain an education is the first and a big step in helping their families come out of the circle of poverty.
