We are working for the downtrodden community. The women and children are more vulnerable. The targeted area have no water access or sanitaries facilities. The children are facing a lot of health problems. For them, providing safe drinking water is a must. The provision of filter units to the school children will improve the health, which in turn have a positive impact in the school attendance record. For sustainability, Child Watsan Committees will be formed to maintain these filters.
There is water scarcity in the targeted villages for the past five years. The water which they are getting from the borewell as well as from the river is not potable. When the children are drinking this water, they are highly affected to water borne diseases and due to this, they couldnt attend the schools properly. The primary health center records shows that children are the most affected. So to improve their health and to provide secure water, filters will be distributed to the schools.
By providing filters to schools, the children will have access to safe and secure drinking water, which in turn will improve their health and make them to attend the schools daily. For sustainabilty of the filter system, Child Watsan Commitee will be formed and trained on the maintainance of the filters. The filters are made of plastic, designed for children by an indo-dutch company. The capacity of the filter is 40 liters and it kills e-coli 99%. 40 children can use one filter per grade.
The targeted villages and the schools to provide filters are the same villages where Kynarou implementing its others projects on water and sanitation for past two years. As the students are the future generation and they will act as the catalyst to bring changes both in the families and in the society, they were targeted and provided health and hygiene education. So that these 2706 children will passed the message to their parents and tell the importance of safe and secure drinking water.
