Supporting A World of Possibilities

By Ashley Lawrence | Executive Director

Kimberley

"As a first-generation college student, The Springboard Foundation College Scholarship means a great deal. When I found out I received the scholarship, I was in tears. The timing could not have been any better. I didn't have money for textbooks or a computer. The scholarship provided me with a means to · purchase both. I can focus on school and my family. I don't have to work 2-3 part-time jobs."

"I love that that Springboard Foundation Scholarship gives back to the special needs to the community. I want to do the same by pursuing my career goal to be an elementary school special needs teacher. I have a son with special needs and I see the where improvements can be made in special needs education. It is important that my son and others get the individualized attention they need. I want to drive that kind of change and help young individuals with special needs realize their true potential and greatness."

Storm

"The Springboard Foundation Scholarship has been a great financial cushion. Although I work three part-time jobs while balancing a challenging course load, I don't have to but I like to!"

"As someone who has overcome a hearing impairment, it is important to help others who are not as fortunate as I am. Also, as an Economics major, I'm interested in developmental economics, improving access to education and promoting literacy. I've traveled to China to promote literacy and teach English and will go to Japan this summer."

Brian

"The Springboard Foundation Scholarship has allowed me to focus on school. I have dyslexia and it takes me longer to read and write so now, with the scholarship, I don't have to work. I can take the extra time I need to get my work done and succeed."

"Since high school, I have given back to special needs community. I created a blog that had over 2 million views and showcased technologies available that make reading, writing, and other difficult tasks easier for individuals with dyslexia, low vision, blindness, and other disabilities. As an intern at Microsoft, I worked on an application that enhances spell check. We received feedback from people with disabilities so we could recommend new functions. My goal is to continue this kind of work and increase the availability of new technology for the special needs community and educating others on technologies that already exist."
