The Society has awarded more than 250 scholarships

As St. George’s Society approaches the 10-year anniversary of the Scholarship Program in 2018, we are delighted to welcome students from Hunter College, part of the City University of New York. This expansion would not be possible without the ongoing support of members, donors and people like you.

Hunter is one of the oldest public colleges in the United States, founded in 1870 by Irish immigrant Thomas Hunter as a teacher-training school for women. It now enrolls more than 23,000 students annually, pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 170 areas of study. Ranked 11th among public universities in the northern US by U.S. News & World Report, Hunter College is the only one in the nation whose roster of alumni includes two female Nobel laureates in medicine.

In the spring of this year, the Society awarded 19 scholarships to Hunter students continuing our legacy of giving. Scholarship Committee Chair, Dr. Paul Beresford-Hill commented, “This expansion of the [Scholarship Program] provides access to education for more students who lack the financial means to complete their studies.”

Later this summer, the Society will award scholarships for the Fall 2017 intake totaling more than $820,000 given over the history of the Scholarship Program. As we welcome this next group of scholars, we thank you for your continued support of St. George’s Society’s efforts to enrich the lives of people in need.
