Girls with disabilities face great difficulties after completing higher secondary education (12th Std). The facilities for graduation and post-graduation courses are not available at the village level. They have to commute to nearby cities or stay in a hostel. Both ways are very challenging and expensive for poor students with disabilities. Hence, the majority of students with disabilities from rural areas would not complete graduation and post-graduation levels.
The education and literacy levels among girls with disabilities have also increased in the last two decades. As per the new law Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, education to children with disabilities is free and compulsory till the age of 18 years. Girls with disabilities face great difficulties after completing higher secondary education (12th Std). The facilities for graduation and post-graduation courses are not available at the village level.
The project aims to enable 100 bright Girls with disabilities to pursue graduation-level or higher education courses. The scholarship will help girls with disabilities to stay in a hostel to pursue higher education. It will also help them to have assistive devices and also study materials. The scholarship program will give confidence to girls to pursue and complete higher education. The girls with disabilities will move out from home, and face the outer world with confidence.
The long-term impact of the project is as follows. 1. The girls with disabilities will complete professional academic courses and will complete graduation and post-graduation courses. 2. The girls will have the confidence to live alone and manage life with disabilities outside of the home. 3. They will be qualified for the application for Government Jobs. 4. They will be employed by the reputed organization based on their academic performance not merely based on disabilities
