I am waiting for fees to go to school

The government and the opposition groups have failed to reached peace agreement despite pressure from IGAD and international communities. There are fierce clashes between the fighting parties in Jonglei and Upper Nile States. UN is warning if no peace is sign soon the world youngest nation might go to full-scale civil war. Humanitarian situation is alarming since 1.5 million people are internally displaced or in living in exile as refugees.

In Owinyikibul part of Magwi County, the SPLA new recruits clashed with local villagers earlier March. The drunken soldier had refused to pay for the services where he was stabbed in a bar fighting everybody. He then organized his fellow recruits burning more than 100 houses and market stalls in retaliation. One recruit dead in the clashes.

A chief from Owinyikibul village has blamed the trainers for failing to keep discipline and control of their recruits. The situation is under control and there is stability in the County. Click this link to learn more:

You have shown that they are future assets to their future and nation. You fed them, give them medicine when they are sick, clothed them in new school uniforms, and put their first pair of shoes on their feet. Hope Ofiriha wishes you a Merry Christmas, and a prosperous new year!

There is no political agreement reach between the government and SPLA in opposition despite the IGAD sponsored peace talks in Adisababa since the alleged coup. South Sudan is getting worse every day, and hope for peace is weak as the clashes continue to take place in Jonglei state between the regime and rebel forces.

With your funding, the charity kept 32 pupils in schools. Your help goes very far in providing these kids with the basic education they would not have access without you.

Two staff have been running the sponsorship programme with great enthusiasm. Most of the pupils sponsored go to schools in northern Uganda because of affordable school fees, and few pupils attend schools in Kampala areas.

Three board members have drawn up the rules for the project, so that money is used wisely for those who deserve help. We sponsor each child per family, and from different tribes of refugee families who are living in exile. Unfortunately, few student have had to be removed out due to poor attendance or poor performance.

The Students at each school, have to nominate a fellow student to be their representative. He or her reports back to the charity and is the main link with that school.

In November 2014, We organized a mini graduation party, held at "Kawotto B". The Nursing student is the first ever younger refugee girl to graduate with "Advanced Diploma" through the sponsorship initiative. As Ngo, we are proud of her achievement. She will be a new row model for other refugee girls to replicate her journey of fighting poverty while at the same time pursuing her studies. We had a good turnout with 62 parents and students. They were very positive about the programme, and it was very rewarding to see their apparent gratitude and commitment to do well.

In the next quarter a new field update report be posted, so you get to know the educational progress these children are making to give them a bright future.

Education is Hope for South Sudan

Education is only hope for south Sudan!

Thanks for your recent donation to Sponsor South Sudanese Refugee children in Uganda.

South Sudan on the Brink of Famine as Fighting Rages On. Aid agencies predict that South Sudan could be headed for the worst famine since the 1984 Ethiopian famine.

The United Nations has warned that a famine looms if there is no end to the fighting that erupted in mid-December between the government and rebels. More than a third of the nation's roughly 11 million people could be on the brink of starvation by the end of the year, UN officials claim.

Additional aid is needed to combat this alarming crisis.

Hopeofiriha sponsors south Sudanese refugee children who came to Uganda when conflict broke out last December between Dinka and Nuer, and those who are stranded in Kampala from the previous war. The current crisis in Jonglei state has forced children to crossed into northern Uganda. Most have approached Hope Ofiriha to sponsor, unfortunately, we are able to help only two this time. We do not have fund to sponsor all of them.

Hope Ofiriha has a policy to sponsor each child per family and from different part of the country. We help children from Dinka, Nuer, Acholi, Bari, and madi equally. We do this to ensure to spread the development of education across the country.

The children from Jonglei state have not reported in their school in Uganda since last year, and Hope Ofiriha has no idea what had happened to them. We are cutting down the number of pupils we have been supporting from 65 to 32. For two reasons, first 33 pupils were missing and had been difficult for Hope Ofiriha to get in touch with their parents from Jonglei State where the current conflict is taking place. Second, the fighting in the country made our fundraising (South Sudanese in Diaspora) pulled out from helping in the country. This has a negative impact on project income level.

We sponsor children with funds donated by south Sudanese in Diaspora, GlobalGiving, European individual families, and a cooperate donor.
