The wheels are turning and our team is growing!

By Jo Giles | Head Angel

A few months ago, we shared our exciting plans to launch our first Johannesburg-based Super Sam Hero Vehicle. Today, we are delighted to tell you our vision has become a reality!

Our Jozi Super Sam Hero Bus is now on the road, bringing dignity, hope and joy to children and families who face regular journeys to and from hospital. What was once a dream is now changing lives every day.

At Footprints 4 Sam, our impact is not only measured by what we do, but by the people who make it possible. Behind the scenes there is a team committed to bringing hope, dignity and care to the children and families we serve. We recently welcomed two remarkable new team members to the Footprints 4 Sam family!

William Kutumela joined us as the driver of our very first Johannesburg Super Sam Hero Bus. Drawn to the role by a desire to bring hope and happiness to children and families, William has quickly become an important part of our team. One of his proudest moments was seeing the excitement, smiles and laughter on the faces of children boarding the ‘Sam se Bussie’ for the first time. For him, every journey is about far more than transport, it is about creating special memories and reminding families that they are not alone.

Working alongside him is Michelle, our wonderful Virtual PA and Office Manager, affectionately known as our "Admin Angel." While much of her work happens behind the scenes, Michelle plays a vital role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly. She keeps our growing organisation organised and efficient, allowing the rest of the team to focus on what matters most. She is particularly touched when families and healthcare professionals share positive feedback about our services, knowing that her contribution helps make those moments possible.

Together, William and Michelle represent exactly what this Scaling for Impact project was designed to achieve. By investing in people, you are helping us build a stronger, more sustainable organisation that can serve more children, support more families and expand our reach across South Africa.

As always, thank you for believing in our dreams to fill the gaps of care in paediatrics for underprivileged children, their families and the health professionals who care for them. This is Sam’s legacy. July will mark the 10th anniversary of Sam’s death and every kilometre travelled, every family supported and every smile created is made possible because of you and a little boy whose life was cut way too short.

With love,

Jo and the Footprints 4 Sam Team
