Saving lives with diagnosis on time

Diana is 44 years old and she came to our Hospital in the need of an endoscopy-based gastric
tissue biopsy in order to get her health condition checked. The procedure, which requires
general anesthesia and the use of a laparoscope, lasted approximately one hour and it was
performed by our gastrointestinal surgery and endoscopy specialist.

Dr. Jaime states that the laparoscopy procedures performed on patients that often look to get
their health condition checked is a method that allows identifying the diagnostic more quickly
and assertively. "Our patient Diana came looking for assistance because she had been having

Rosa, a Testimonial with Soul
It was eventually determined that the patient’s dizziness was caused by a
severe hypoglycemia condition, commonly known as low glucose or sugar
levels, directly related to an insulin-producing tumor located in her pancreas,
which is called insulinoma.
Ms. Rosa came to Hospital Pablo
Tobón Uribe because she had been having
repetitive morning dizziness for three
months. Despite having consulted different
medical specialists and institutions on
several occasions, it had not been possible
to establish the actual cause for her body’s
imbalance.
After a hospitalization event and having ruled out suspicions of neurological
pathologies, Rosa was referred to the Hospital with Soul under the
supervision of our gastroenterology specialist, Doctor Gabriel, who made
available all his knowledge to her with the purpose of assisting her.
Rosa and her family accepted the alternative proposed by Doctor
Gabriel, an ethanolization- based ablation procedure that consists in using a
needle through an endoscopic technique to apply a substance that
subsequently enables the endosonography-guided ablation of the
neuroendocrine tumor. This procedure is performed using medical equipment
that combines endoscopy, which consists in using a camera-equipped device,
and ultrasonography to make the visualization of the tissues easier for the
specialist.
Thanks to this type of moderately invasive procedures based on the use of
state-of-the-art technology, it is possible to reach tumors such as the one Ms.
Rosa had, thus allowing to regulate her insulin levels and facilitating her
treatment without the need to resort to surgical interventions.
Since the patient underwent the mentioned procedure, her quality of life has
notably improved, enabling her to resume her day-to-day activities.

Rosa is now in good health conditions and she is deeply grateful to Hospital
